At 12:35 local time the lights went out at the Estoril circuit, giving the start to Race 2 of the Supersport World Championship.
Philipp Öttl started from sixth on the grid, but lost two places on the first lap, then slipped to ninth on the second lap. The German driver was undaunted and, with determination and excellent pace, quickly recovered to return to his starting position.
On lap nine, he moved into fifth place and, taking advantage of a mistake by the driver in front, climbed to fourth. With a consistent and competitive pace, Philipp also overtook the third-place finisher and, on the penultimate lap, capitalized on a technical problem in the second-place finisher to cross the finish line in a splendid second place.
A deserved result that confirms the solidity and consistency of the driver and the team during the Portuguese weekend.
Philipp Öttl (#65):
“Today's Race 2 is over. No fourth place this time: we're finally on the podium! I'm really happy because the race was quite difficult at the start, but then we managed to catch the leading group and, in the end, finished second. I'm very proud of today's result. The team did a fantastic job, and now we're ready for Jerez”.
